The art of storytelling is a vital part of the literary experience, and this fun, interactive residency brings it to life through an exciting blend of narrative mime, theater, visual art, and music. Throughout the week, students will journey through folk and fairy tales from a variety of world cultures—exploring the rhythm, structure, and heart of stories that have stood the test of time. Each day features imaginative, hands-on activities that foster creativity, communication, and confidence. Students will dive into character development, story sequencing, and expressive movement while learning to “show” as well as “tell” a story. They'll experiment with props, voice, and sound to create dynamic group performances, and even design story art pieces that reflect key elements from the tales they explore. This arts-integrated residency offers a joyful and meaningful path into literacy, empowering students to find their storytelling voice while building important reading, writing, and performance skills in a way that’s as educational as it is unforgettable.
