Exploring the Wonderful World of Storytelling (1st & 2nd. grades)

The art of storytelling is a crucial aspect of the literary experience, and this residency program offers a comprehensive introduction to the subject through the use of various mediums such as narrative mime, theater, art, and music. Each day is filled with engaging and imaginative activities that center on folk and fairy tales from different cultures around the world. During the residency week, students will have the opportunity to learn and practice key elements of literacy-based storytelling activities. Students will:

  • Explore story sequencing, plot development and story mechanics.
  • Experiment using voice--- projection, dynamics and range.
  • Practice facial expressions and gesters, creative movement, personification.
  • Sharpen listening skills, learn body control and strengthen social skills, etc.
  •  Explore creative story design and art.
