Wind Songs and Wonder (3rd-6th)

Wind Songs and Wonder
This arts-integrated residency is an exciting, hands-on adventure your students won’t forget! Over the course of the week, students will build their very own Native American-style flute from scratch, learn to play simple melodies, and explore traditional music notation in a way that’s both approachable and inspiring. Alongside the music, they’ll hear captivating Cherokee folktales and cultural stories that bring deeper meaning to the experience. Using basic art materials and techniques, each student will design and decorate their flute with symbols that reflect their personal background and family heritage—turning every instrument into a one-of-a-kind story piece. The week blends individual creativity with team collaboration, encouraging students to learn, create, and connect through story, song, and culture.

Mr. Fowler is a natural teacher. He understands how to build students’ confidence to try something new and gives great advice to improve their instrument playing that reinforces that confidence. I am amazed at his ability to have each student listening so closely waiting to hear what comes next.
